Journaling, Stamping, and Rub-On Storage

Wow that's a record for me, 5 blog posts in one day.  Can't you tell I'm bored at work.  Well actually, I just have a bunch of drafts with pics that i needed to posts.   So on to this post.....

I am the "out of site, out of mind" type of scrapbooker.  If i don't see the product out, then it never gets used.  And forgive me cause i can't remember where i found this idea from but i think its the Organized and Inspired Scrapbooker book by Wendy Smedley.  So during the black friday rush i purchased three black square baskets with handles from hobbly lobby really cheap.

The first one holds all my rub-ons, well the generic ones at least.  This is mainly letter, phrases and swirls.

The second one holds journaling items..... blocks, tags, scrap pieces and pens.

The third one, which isn't pictured, holds basic stamp supplies.  Acrylic blocks, stamp pads, cleaner and the SC stamp binder mentioned in the previous posts.

Studio Calico Stamp Book and Kit Binder

What Can I Say?  I LOVE my Bind It All.  I happen to get it on sale at Hobby Lobby last year and every chance I get I used it on a project.  I have been looking into a way get my stamps into a visible and portable storage.  I have all the stamps from American Crafts that coordinate with their paper lines.  But I have to say my favorite stamps are those that come with the Studio Calico Kits.  They are so versatile and get used with almost every project.  Zutter had a kit (and unfortunately you can only get the needed page dividers with the kit or otherwise I would have purchased extra to make my binder twice the size) to create a stamp binder.  I purchased two figuring one could be used for all the Studio Calico stamps and then the other for the American Crafts one.  After assembling the binder I decided to save the second one for more Studio Calico stamps. Here is the binder put together.  I had some scrap packaging paper from SC latest stamp, So I used photo corners to attach the paper to the binder, in case I moved to a bigger one its removable.  Some American Crafts thickers later and look how cute this binder came out!
I tied tags to the coil to label each stamp, but as I use the binder I have notice they just get in the way and will be removing these soon.
So far my stamps are only on the front side of each acrylic page but as I added last months stamps and order January's kits with stamps, I only have one acrylic page left and will soon have to start using both sides.
The frosted page dividers are great cause they keep the two acrylic pages with stamps from sticking and keep ink from getting on other stamps.  Cause lets face it, I''m Lazy and don't clean my stamps like I should
So remember those numerous Studio Calico kits I keep blogging about, well I needed a way to keep the contents organized even though they get separated and broken up from the original kits.  With November's kit I started printing a picture and kit contents out and housing them in a binder.  So when i decide i want to use just products from SC kits or need to document what the product is or which kit it came from(design challenge purposes) I know what's what.
I used basic page protectors from the office supply store that i had left over from college.  Slip the printouts in and like magic once again I am organized.  This binder sits right next to the basket that hold all SC kits in their crop bags.

2011 Gratitudes- January, February, March

Last Year Monika Wright created a Gratitude Journal for 2010.  She is starting her 2011 one and I decided to join.  I figured if I get the pages made and minimally embellished then it should be no problem to add my daily gratitudes(or catch up each weekend) and finish off the pages each day. My cover is not complete because I am still deciding on a title for this mini.  Here is what i have so far, any suggestions?

  1. "365 Things I Am Grateful For in 2011" - title of Monika's original
  2. "2011 Gratitudes"
  3. "365 Grateful Days in 2011"
  4. "Things to be Gratefull For"
  5. "Daily Gratitudes"
I plan to bind the mini after all the pages are made with my Bind It All, so I am punching as I go.

As to my inner pages, I decided to go all American Crafts for this and a different line for each month.  And believe me I have plenty of American Crafts Goodies to go around.  Thickers will be added as I start to journal my gratitudes.  I planned for 5 pages(front and back) each month, each page to hold 7 days worth of gratitudes.  Since at most there is 31 days in each month, this gives me 4 extra days worth of room to journal the longer gratitudes.

January uses the "Junior" line because its bold and bright just like the New Year should be.

February uses the "I Heart You" line because face it February is all about the love!

March uses the "Blue Skies" line because here in Louisiana it starts to feel like spring in March

Monthly Mini Kit Club - ScrapScription

Well I am the newest member of ScrapScription's Montly Mini Kit Club.  I found this kit club via Cathy Zielske's Blog.  Visit her post of Scrap Scription and there is a coupon code for free shipping on the December Kit.

So my December Kit arrived promptly the day after Christmas.  This kit is entitled: "A Look Back @ 2010 " and its great.  I quickly (well over a couple of hours of watching movies and scrapping) put the mini together.  It great cause it was very basic to assemble plus they gave you step by step, including measurements, instructions for embellishing or you can go your own way.
So the mini has a envelope for each month that holds a tag.  I plan to use my new Polaroid Pogo to print mini prints from events in 2010 and use the prints and lists of event happening.  Once this is completed I will posts detailed pics for each month.

With the leftover paper and embellishments, believe me there was plenty paper, I covered the packaging my Smashbox cosmetics came in the mail in.  The letters on the top are American Crafts "Daydream" in black foam.
I added my own dividers and this box will hold all those misc treasures from past kits, found items and just plain cute stuff for each access when scrapping.

Wanna join this kit club with me?  Visit Scrapscription.com and join. Here is a description:

ScrapScribers is ScrapScription's monthly kit club. As a ScrapScribers member you are guaranteed ScrapScription's 15th of the month kit each and every month! No need to worry about missing out on a fabulous kit; you will automatically be billed and sent your ScrapScribers kit each month.

As a member of ScrapScribers, you will receive your kit at a guaranteed discounted price of $32 each month. As always, the kit will continue to be made available to our customers on the 15th of each month. For non-ScrapScribers members, the normal price will be $35 or higher. In addition to being guaranteed a discounted price of $32 for each kit, every 6th kit will be shipped free of charge! Finally, if you are a ScrapScriber, you will get a preview of the kit around the 10th of the month and should receive your kit by the 15th.

Its like getting a new mini book project including the surprises each month.  I have always wanted to make mini's to have around my house for the everyday pictures not just the events.  I can't wait to see what is in store for January's kit.

Scrap Planner

Remember this notebook......
Well I finally finished its companion, just in time for CCL XX........
I simply altered a mini binder using the scraps  from KI Memories "Love Elsie, Zoe" page kit.  This binder is small enough to fit in my purse(well maybe my purse is just big enough to hold the binder) and has been my go-to for all things scrappy.  Ideas, magazine articles, thoughts, to-do lists, etc.

Its broken up into many sections with room to grow.  I took cardstock and patterned paper, 12x12 in size, folded up the bottom section, so it measure around 9 inches now, then folded the whole thing in half.  The good thing about the size of this binder is I can print two pages per sheet on any printer, cut in half and it fits perfectly.

The first section holds calendars printed from MS Word.  I then filled in the months and days.  I am using these calendars to keep track on all my BPS classes, crops, and upcoming scrappy project deadlines.
The second section holds my layout To-Do Lists.   Becky Higgins created this for Creating Keepsakes and I just happen to come across it online.  Link: http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/images/stories/magazines/creating_keepsakes/March2009/DL-TODOblank-3.pdf
I have a sheet for each of my current albums (All About Me, People I Love, Things I Do, Places I Go) along with a sheet for each of these: Projects, Other Crafts, Holiday Ideas, Big Buddy Program Album for Tatianna/Taliyah, and Mini Albums.  The great thing about these lists and it has a section to check off the photos, page, and journal are complete.  That way when I go to print a big order of pictures (when CVS, walgreens or walmart has deals) I know whats been printed and what needs to be.
The next section has possible page titles and more detailed notes on current layouts.

The next section has sheets for planning page layouts.  I have them for both 12x12 and 8.5x11.  I found these at organizedscrapbook.com
Next up is a section that holds all my To-Do lists for current classes.  I usually take multiple classes and one time and this is a good way for me to keep up with assignments without having to print out all the handouts.
Then we moved onto the Inventory section.  I will admit I have not used this section yet.  The plan was to inventory my punches, markers, inks, stamps, etc.
The last section is one of my favorites.  Its simple a picture and printout of contents of each of the Studio Calico kits I subscribe to monthly.  I tend to pull certain brands and papers out and when I'm done I like to put them back in their crop bags.
I hope you enjoyed a look into my OCD'ness.  I encourage each and everyone of you to create your own scrap planner.  I have yet to find a digital way of doing this, considering these pics were taken about a month ago when the planner was first completed.  Now its full of sticky notes, scraps of paper and random ramblings.

Craft Room Organization - Cardstock and Scraps

Ok guys this is the last Craft Room Storage post.  Today's topic is cardstock and scraps.  My cardstock selection isn't extensive.  Manily I have the handful that come in my Studio Calico kits and packs of black, grey, and white.  I used the white cubes that are divided into four paper sections.  I have mixed sizes, 12 x 12 and 8.5 x 11.  As for scraps, for now they are stored in that green, black and white, 12 x 12 paper box that fits nicely on a shelf.  Anything smaller than 8.x5 x 11 is housed here.  One day I would like to have drawers for each color separated.  I am also thinking about re-organizing everything by color.  I will wait to do this and see how the current set up works.  I am waiting for BPC to offer the Organization for Scrapbookers class before I make any more major changes.

Thats all for now, thanks for reading along on my journey to organization.

Craft Room Organization - Markers, Pen, etc.

I have numerous types and colors of pens, markers, pencils, etc......what creative person doesn't.  I am the out of sight out of mind type of person, so I had to come up with a way to have all my pens visible and within reach.  I have of the rotating carousel that holds all my essential tools and such but it hold everything vertical.  As an artist I own various expensive art markers which i use a lot even in my paper projects.  They have to be stored vertical.  So I had the idea to use coffee mugs on a mug rack.  Would you believe that when i went looking for a mug rack, it was the hardest thing to find.  The above mug rack was found at my local Ross.  To my surprise the mugs were colored and perfect to keep my rainbow of a collection separated.

Craft Room Organization - Card Making and Machines

Cardmaking is the reason I got back into my scrapbook obsession.  When I joined the Big Buddy Program about a year ago, I was having trouble reaching my little buddy by phone.  So I started sending weekly cards with just upbeat "hello" messages of encouragement.  Then as our activities picked up with the program, the layouts started flowing.  The obsession picked back up.

Enough ranting.....

My basic cardmaking supplies, ie: pre-folded cards and envelopes, are stored in the 4 drawer cube.  Broken down by manufactor.  The first drawer on the top left is all American Crafts.  The second drawer on the top right is basic Paper Studio kraft cards and evenlopes, for when i want a vintage feel or black canvas.  The bottom left drawer is a mixture of Martha Stewart card packs and misc stationary.  And finally the bottom right drawer holds embossing heat gun and rubber mounted stamps.
One of the issues I had before with the way the room was set up is my machines were either out of reach or too much of pain to take in and out of storage.  So the main goal of the re-org was to get my machines in clear view and have them permantly set up.  Now all I have to do is simply turn my stool and either die cut using the slice, sew using the sewing machine or cut using my fiskars rotary cutter.  Everything is out, plugged if in needed and ready to go.  Needed accesories are stored on the pegboard above the machine.  So far the system is working out really well.

Craft Room Organization - Punches, Chipboard, and Templates

Punches, Chipboard and Templates, Oh My!

Previously my punches were stored in the two-tiered baskets, then on the wired shelving unit hung on the wall.  The weight was causing major issues and even caused the shelf to fall off the wall at one point.  Now they are simple stored in a drawer, design side up, of my white cubes.  As my collection grows, cause you know it will, the plan is too use more drawers and separate by theme.
Chipboard is something I don't have much of.  The jars below of chipboard letters and numbers and a few packs of raw chipboard 12x12 sheets are all I own.  The jars use to reside on the wired shelving unit but now are housed in a single drawer of the white cubes.  Raw chipboard sheets are stacked on another shelf.
These templates are for my fiskars circle cutter.  I rarely use them as I never need shapes that big.  My slice machine cuts up to 4 inches and i use that all the time.  They are neatly stacked in the drawer until i find a better use for them.  Any ideas?

Classes and Workshops

Well Amy Tangerine's "Get Those Creative Juices Flowing"  workshop came to end this past friday.  How sad!  I really enjoyed this class and look forward to her next workshop in spring of 2011.

Dear Lizzy's "Unlock Your Story" workshop begins on Nov 1st.  I received my kit in the mail early this week and can't wait for the class to start.

Starting Nov 22nd I will be taking Latrice's "Holiday Happenings" Workshop.  We will be making a cute mini album!  Registration offically opens on Monday morning but if you email her today, you can purchase the class($15) or the class + kit($42).  Better hurry on the kits, she is only making 25 and if you are one of the first 15 to buy the kits, you get $25 scrapbooking kit for free.  Now thats a deal!  Hope to see you in class.

SYS: Throughout the Holiday Season and BPC ended yesterday.   What a great class.  Although class is over, I continue to use the box and index card system to house all my holiday ideas.  I am hoping BPC offers the other two (Celebrations and Summer Travel) SYS classes again next year.

Cut The Crazy Out Of Christmas is still going on, but I find my self behind.  I am a little over extended with the upcoming Halloween weekend so I have just assembled my binder but haven't done any of the assignments yet.

Donna Downey's Fun With Fabric is on Week 5.  The class is currently creating a canas album.  As stated in my previous posts about this class, I won a spot so I plan on getting everything printed and catching up on the projects later in next year.  I do plan on completing the pretty ladies and apron once those weeks come around.

Get Great Photos with Any Camera started today and I am already behind.  I think i have completed all my pre-assignment photos, I just have to dig through my iphoto library and upload them.  I do want to try out the first three picture assignments during the halloween weekend.

So I am currently taking 3 BPC classes and two other workshops starting soon.  No wonder i am overextended.

Craft Room Organization - Pegboard

What do you do with all those items that are either too bulky to store in drawers or if you store them, you forget about them?

Now granted the pegboard by far isn't a new invention.  Most of the time you see it in a tool workroom or a garage.  The hooks and baskets are made primarly to hold things.  One great thing is they are heavy duty!

My pegboard was purchased at my local hardware store: Home Depot.  The hooks and baskets were actually found in the hardwared section of Walmart.  Home Depot just didn't have wire looking baskets, they were plastic instead.

As you see below in the picture, I have hooks holding buckets (found in the $ aisle of target), different size baskets, along with long hooks.
Buckets:  The buckets hold my decorative edge scissor collection and long thin books of rub-ons (Making Memories Font Collection).

Hooks: My prior storage system had embellishment collections bagged in jewerly bags and clasped together with binder rings.  These rings now are held on the hooks.  This give me a visual of what I have so they don't get filed in a drawer and never seen again.

Baskets:  My baskets in a variety of sizes holds many items. The first larger basket (looking from left to right) has large cans and bottles of specialty adhesives and spray paint. Most of this stuff was what was on the supply list from BPC's 52 Card Pickup class.  The middle large basket holds all my clear stamp accessores and a few clear stamps that haven't been filed.  My acrylic blocks, ink pads and stamp cleaner are in this basket.  The third large basket holds adhesives.  From tape runners, to 3D dots, to basic packing tape, Its all in this basket.

There are one medium basket and three small baskets on the pegboard.  The medium basket currently hold the cardstock and misc supplies to finish up the 52 Card Pickup class.  I fell behind and have a few cards left to finish. The first small basket (again left to right) holds the accesories to my Bind It All Machine.  The second baskets has Making Memories paint and a few canisters of glitter.  The final small basket holds the thread and accesories from my sewing machine.

Long Hooks: The long hooks are there to hold misc items.  Two the same size hung side by side create a shelf, like the ones up top that are holding my Making Memories eyelet setter kit and Pebbles chalk container.

This pegboard tends to get messy quickly as most things don't have "a place", but I like to re-arrange the stuff often.  The hooks and baskets allow me to make these changes without having to put additional holes in the wall.

Stay tuned, I have four more days of storage solutions.  Coming up is punches, chipboard and stencils.

Craft Room Organization - Ribbon & Online "steals" sites

I have recently started buying spools of ribbon.  Of course I will have to blame this on American Crafts and Hobby Lobby.  When I noticed that Hobby Lobby carried American Crafts brand, I went from aisle to aisle looking for it.  I noticed in the ribbon aisle that there packs of 5 spools of ribbon.  The first pack i picked up was the Teen "BFF" line.  Oh how cute, when i turned it over to look at the price, I though ouch $4.99 for ribbon.  Well i bought the one package and that was it i was hooked.  The very next week, Hobby Lobby ran and 40% special on all ribbon.  I went back and bought a bunch more.  So needless to say I have a lot of American Crafts ribbon.  And thanks to sites like Craftysteals.com, Scrapbooksteals.com and Peachycheap.com, my American Crafts addiction is thriving greatly.  More on these sites later.
I also found a bunch of Martha Stewart adhesive ribbon at Tj Maxx and Marshalls.  Even though these packages only give you a small length, they are adhesive on the back and make create quick boarders on pictures or a way to secured velumn and clear accents.

So on to storage solutions.  Since I store my American Crafts products by collections in clear envelopes, the ribbon makes it very bulky.     So In the above picture you will see a two tier fruit basket I found in the home decor section of TJ Maxx.  I got this right when the dorm room season started.  My small (dollar rolls and 5 spool packeged) rolls are stored in the top tier and in the bottom holds larger AC spools (their stationary and wrapping paper collection - i find these at Tuesday morning) and Martha Stewart ribbon cards.

Below you will see another two tier smaller fruit basket.  This one holds all of the American Crafts solid "Haute"  & "Essentials" ribbon.
This storage solution works for now as I am able to see what I have and makes pretty decor.  I have noticed that once I remove the plastic strip holding the ribbon tight that the spools start to unroll and get tangled.  I might have to consider another storage option for this.   These baskets can always be used for punches which was the original thought.

"Steals" sites

I recently discovered a handfull of sites that offer "one deal a day" on scrapbooking and crafty supplies and a discounted price.  Everything is at least 50% off most time in the higher 60%'s.  These sites are a great way to get your hands on complete collections or bulk lots.

Craftysteals.com and Stitchsteals.com

They offer one new deal a day each but also have a past steals page that in case you missed a steal.  Combined shipping is offer on today's steal and past steals.  Combined shipping is not offered on the two sites together, they are independent of each other. Beware that craftysteals deal sells out quickly, espically when they offer current issues of "Cards" and  "Scrapbook Trends"  magazines.  Unity stamps are also a hot item on this site.    If you have a family member or fried who is a sewer or knitter, then Stitchsteals.com is a great site.   If you are a sewer and scrapbooker, most time the two sites compliment each other.  Craftysteals will offer a scrapbooking collection and stitchsteals will offer the coordinating fabric.

New deals get posted somewhere between 1:00 am and 3:00 am my time (Louisiana).

Peachcheap.com

This is another site that offers great scrapbooking supplies.  There site has a deal a day and i have not been able to find a past deal page.  They do have a sister site, sideofpeaches.com that offers more trendy hair accessories, purses, belts, etc.

New deals get posted around midnight my time (Louisiana)

Scrapbooksteals.com, Babysteals.com, Kidsteals.com

This group of sites is very similar to craftysteals.com, offering the same type of deals and also have an archive page of past deals.  There is no main link on the site for the archives you just have to know the address: scrapbooksteals.com/archives.  Babysteals and Kidsteals are great sites if you have young ones in the house.  Mainly speciality products and popular musthaves.

New deals get posted 10:00 am my time (Louisiana)

I do recomened all the sites above, but just a word of warning.  THEY ARE ADDICTIVE!  Last months credit card bill was a lot more than i normally spend.  I will say popular deals tend to repeat on all the sites once the company gets more products in stock, so don't be too disappointed if you don't get it right away.

Now that I am offically and "enabler", I hope that at least you got some great ideas.  Stay tuned for my next post on using a pegboard to store bulky items.

Weight loss Update - Week #8

I am happy to report that I have loss another 1.3 lbs bringing my total weight loss to 18.6 at a current weight of 179.8lbs. I have made it past the 180lb mark!  Next goal is to loose 25 lbs putting me to the half way mark.  Hopefully this happens by christmas time.

I would also like to note that today i took the tags off a size MEDIUM shirt bought from Target two years ago.  It was on the clearance rack and I didn't try it on before i bought it.  It has always been too tight around my waist.  Well Not Today!

On a sad note, I received blood test results back from our Healthy Living challenge at work and there is some concern for my Liver levels.  I have turned in the results to both my regular doctor and the nurse at the HMR office.  My regular doctor would like to run some more tests and depending on the cause of high levels, HMR is considering slowing down my weight loss.  After all this work and momentum, I hope this isn't the case.  I will report back next week once I hear more info.
